The Misunderstood Artist

I think an artist is very often misunderstood.  They tend to beat to their own drum and take the less travel road in both views as well as lifestyles.  And while this is a good thing that creates diversity and makes the world go around, it can also frustrated those that are close to or work with those who are of an artistic nature.
To be an artist you must have the power to give yourself the freedom to travel with in yourself as well as outside of yourself in order to give be able to use your talent for the world. Which by the way is very hard, because when you go outside of yourself, you have to admit that there are other answers to a question as well as views and yours may not necessarily be right, and when you go within yourself it can be quite painful to see your flaws and issues that are with in each of us.  Most people are not open to seeing life in someone else’s eyes; they like their little life and outlook the way it is.  Most people also run from themselves or refuse to acknowledge internal issues and hurts that they may be going through, and this is perfectly ok.  This is where the artists come into the picture.
We have a personal and spiritual obligation to give of ourselves to the rest of the world. The art that we create is more than a picture or a sculpture, but really it’s our soul made manifest into the natural.  We are incredibly sensitive (hypersensitive) beings who are open to the spiritual realm and therefore can see the world around us in a completely unique way.  And since we are each unique beings ourselves, we are able to tell the same truth in many different ways and are able to reach many different people and cultures.  Art is one thing that can transcend all boundaries we as humans tend to put up to keep us separated.
Some truths are not able to be verbalized at times and that is why we create.  We create that piece that will speak to those who need to hear the truth that surrounds them but can’t see.  That’s why some art makes you cry, while another may irritate or anger you, and you have no idea, but it pulls to you and you’re forced to buy it.
As humans we are all connected on an unseen wavelength of energy.  Some support us on a physical level such as electricians, carpenters, bankers… and then there are those who support us spiritually such as the dancers, singers and sculptors; but we are all connected.   This is why children are able to become the best of friends in a matter of minutes, no matter their race, religion or culture.   This is how we all are at a basic level before we are taught that we are supposed to be separated into different clicks and groups.  The children are operating in the spiritual while their parents are operating in the physical.  And there’s nothing wrong with the physical, but it’s just one side of us as humans and it tends to shut down the spiritual which should never be shut down.

Those who support humanity physically are physically drained by the end of the day, while the spiritual supporters of humanity are spiritually drained at the end of the day.   This is why one cannot exist without the other.   As artists we are so busy counseling, and ministering to people and their emotions that we tend to neglect ourselves and often find ourselves relying on that one close friend  who’s in the physical to keep us grounded and make sure that our physical needs are met.  There are many times that we forget to eat because we are busy painting or sculpting or dancing and we honestly can’t stop until we are done.
Am I saying the artist is a special in a special elite group that has specialized destiny? Absolutely not!  This is just a little insight to why we are the way we are, for those who said things to me over the years, such as: you’re flighty, or irresponsible, or too sensitive, etc… ya’ll know what I’m talking about because many of you have probably complained in slight frustration about one of your artist friends.  Did anyone mean harm with these statements? I don’t think so, because outwardly many artists appear this way.  Why? Because we are tapped into the spirit realm; we are intensely sensitive beings which also can make us very vulnerable and why many tend to hermits letting only a couple highly trusted into their personal life.  They don’t want to get hurt by those who don’t understand.  There is a burning desire inside of an artist that demands us to show spiritual truth to the natural realm and we can’t rest until we do.  This often means, that the dishes may go undone for a day or so, or we go silent and don’t answer the phone for days at a time, or forgetting a meeting or paying a bill.   We are like this because the physical is not our primary concern. Our physical comfort comes after we’ve fixed the problem in the spirit.  If we ignore the designs that come to us and don’t get our thoughts and visions in our heart, soul and mind out into the natural, then we are miserable.
So if there is an artist in your life, please try to be patient and understanding with them.  There are many artists who just don’t understand what their gift really is... They just like art.  They honestly don’t know why they can’t keep their bedroom clean or how they could forget that really important meeting.  Just be that support system for them and love them for who they are.

Blessed Be
